SCHOOLS WORKSHOP WITH DAVID BLANDY AND INKO

As part of Brighton Digital Festival 2012, Lighthouse has created a programme of exciting events for young people to take part in, working with artists and technologists to learn about and experiment with technology in creative ways.
Students will have the opportunity to work with Odysseys exhibition artist David Blandy and his Manga artist collaborator Inko on a crash course in Manga style drawing and comic book story techniques.
Exploring storytelling and character development participants will design their own comic book story, turning personal identity into a space odyssey. Students will receive guidance on how to design and draw an exaggerated self-portrait that would fit into the style of Manga (Japanese comic book illustration), with the assistance of professional Manga artist Inko.
The workshop is inspired by Blandy’s exhibition Odysseys at Phoenix Brighton, which explores comic book culture and identity.
